News: Sadar Bazar car park to be ready by 2022-02-09-2021
Gurgaon: Two years after the MCG announced the project of constructing a multi-level car parking in Sadar Bazar to decongest the area, the civic body has only completed 20% of its work. The project, which is estimated to cost Rs 39.93 crore now has a new deadline as the mayor has directed the engineering wing officials to complete the project by August 15, 2022. Moreover, the work on another key project of a multi-level car parking near the post office in Sadar Bazar has not even started.
MCG officials said that the work on the multi-level car parking project at Kaman Sarai is halted due to encroachment by the office of a political party and unauthorised houses of MCG sanitation workers. The work on car parking near the post office, estimated to cost Rs 49 crore, has not started because the land belongs to another government agency and they have not transferred it to the MCG, said officials.
“I have instructed the engineering wing officials that the development work should be completed in a time-bound manner. If an agency does not start working after it is allotted the work or does the work at a snail pace, action should be taken against them as per the provisions. I have also told the engineering wing officials to devise a mechanism so that the status of these development work can be tracked online,” said mayor Madhu Azad, who held a review meeting of key development projects on Tuesday.
MCG commissioner Mukesh Kumar Ahuja said in the meeting that the executive engineers should regularly visit the sites where work is pending completion. Moreover, he said that the engineering wing officials should also visit the site before the estimates of the project are prepared.
However, some projects have started and will soon be complete, said MCG officials. The construction of an auditorium at Bal Bhawan in Sector-4 is 90% complete, however its deadline was March 2021 but could not get completed due to the pandemic. Moreover, the construction of six STPs along with the main pumping station, estimated to cost Rs 25 crore (approx) is near completion as 85% work on the project is over.
