News: Squatters removed from 200m stretch in Sadar Bazar extention-24-08-2021
GURUGRAM: A major anti-encroachment drive was conducted on Monday to clear a 200-metre-long stretch in Bada Bazar, an extension of Sadar Bazar. Each trader on the stretch had encroached around 10 ft of the road by constructing ramps outside their shops, making it a congested road for pedestrians and commuters.
A team of MCG officials first inspected the area and then carried out demolition. The MCG officials said that after they received complaints from residents of the area, following which an inpection was carried out and the ramps were demolished. Unauthorised carts were confiscated and the entire stretch was cleared of encroachment. “We deployed two earthmovers and demolished the unauthorised ramps built by the traders on the road. We have been receiving several complaints about the encroachment on the basis of which we took action onMonday. We have also confiscated 10 to 12 pick up vans that are often parked outside these shops,” said Jitender Garg, joint commissioner-2, MCG.
“The traders of Sadar Bazar, however, complained that the MCG does not take action against the Bada Bazar traders, who encroach 10ft on the road but promptly takes action against Sadar Bazar traders, even if they encroach four ft on the main road,” added Garg.
Moreover, the officials said that the anti-encroachment drive will continue in the area. Some traders had also established temporary structures on the stretch, which were also demolished. The MCG officials said that decongesting the markets is also important since congested markets are a potential threat in the pandemic.
