News: HSPCB to start sewage work in Sec 111 after tribunal order-03-08-2021
Gurgaon: The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has said work to put in place a sewage management system in Sector 111 will start from Tuesday.
Last week, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had directed the board to form a committee and take remedial steps to check unsanitary conditions in the locality.
The NGT was hearing a plea moved by petitioner Himanshu Juneja who alleged that the local authority had failed to manage discharge of sewage water and waste disposal in Sector 111.
A bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel had also directed the HSPCB to submit a report within two months.
“We have carried out the groundwork and the civic body has started solid waste collection in the area. Our committee visited the site and interacted with stakeholders. We are taking up remedial measures in accordance with the law and we will submit a report to the pollution board secretary soon,” said Kuldeep Singh, regional officer, HSPCB, Gurgaon. “Work to put in place a sewage management system will start from Tuesday,” he added.
The plea put before the NGT says “untreated sewage and waste are being disposed of in the open in the complex of Diplomatic Greens, Sector 111, Gurgaon by the residents of unauthorised colony Chandan Vihar, Village Chauma, which adversely affects the environment and public health in the area. This has led to unsanitary conditions inside the complex where more than 350 families are residing. There is imminent danger of air and water borne diseases and also danger of ground water contamination due to leachate.”
