News: SPR among 2 stretches to be repaired-22-06-2021
Gurgaon: In what will spell a major relief for residents and daily commuters, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has initiated a project for the repair of two major roads in the city — a stretch on Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) and the one connecting the Sirhaul toll with the Kapashera border near Delhi. The authority has invited bids from private agencies for the project.
According to officials, the SPR and the Sirhaul stretches are 5km and 3km, respectively, and the project would be worth Rs 7.5 crore. While the SPR stretch from Sohna road towards Rambir Ki Dhani is used by residents in sectors 75,76,77 and 78, the other road is used by commuters coming from Delhi towards Udyog Vihar and vice-versa.
“We will be filling the craters and the potholes and doing patchwork on SPR,” said a GMDA official. “The peripheral road is notorious for recurrent damage causing inconvenience to the commuters. With all the approvals in place, work will begin as soon as an agency is finalised.”
TOI had earlier reported that the GMDA has started work for the repair of multiple roads in the city, inviting agencies to bid on the project. The selected agency will be required to look over the maintenance of the stretches over a period of 6-12 months.
GMDA officials said they appoint agencies for yearly maintenance of the roads in the city. And the project will require the selected agency to look over the work over a long period of time. The roads included in the project are dividing roads for sector 45/46, 29/30. 45/52, 51/52 and 42/5, outer road in Sector 26 and the road near Sector 72A. The total cost of the project is around Rs 4.5 crore.
