News: DHBVN line losses drop to 13.6%-03-06-2021
Gurgaon: Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) has recorded a drop in Aggregate Transmission and Commercial (AT&C) losses this year. The discom’s AT&C loss was 16.5% last year, which have now come down to 13.63%.
The DHBVN has attributed the decline in losses to the special drives that were launched by the corporation to bring AT&C losses to a minimum level, under which all the consumers would be billed according to their actual consumption. Consumers were made aware of paying their dues, including the current and outstanding bill amounts, the department said.
“The power bill dues of government departments were paid and a campaign was launched to cut connections of consumers who did not pay dues,” a DHBVN spokesperson said.
Earlier, the department had identified electricity theft as one of the major reasons behind line losses. It had launched campaigns through special teams to catch such thefts. As a result, 48,729 cases of electricity theft were caught during the financial year 2020-21, due to which a fine of Rs 163 crore was imposed — nearly double of the previous year.
“On one hand, power efficiency has been improved by curbing power theft. On the other hand, line losses have also reduced. It has given encouraging results in the interest of the corporation and it is a big achievement for DHBVN to bring AT&C loss down to 13.63%,” the spokesperson added.
