Ex-MLA among 6 who ‘developed illegal colony’
Gurgaon: Six people, including a former MLA and two property dealers, have been booked for allegedly carving out an illegal colony in Sector 77’s Shikohpur village.
The move comes after a police complaint was filed by the department of town and country planning (DTCP). According to the FIR lodged by Kherki Daula police on Tuesday, the accused people — which includes former MLA Umesh Aggarwal —were developing an illegal colony on six acres of prime land in Shikohpur in violation of the Haryana Development and Regulation of Urban Areas Act. Aggarwal did not revert to queries sent by TOI.
District town planner (enforcement) RS Batth said acting on a complaint, a team of officials from the enforcement wing of DTCP visited the site and found that a colony was being developed. A road network was also being laid illegally, he said. Before the department could serve a notice to developers, however, the accused people approached a local court and got a stay against the departmental action, a DTCP official said. “An inquiry was conducted and the department found that Aggarwal is behind the development of the illegal colony. Based on the inquiry, the department approached police,” Batth said.
DTCP director KM Pandurang had recently directed his team not only to file police complaints against the land owners and developers of illegal colonies but also against those who are behind the planning of such illegal activities. An FIR was recently filed against eight persons, including Gaje Singh Kablana, a former councillor and husband of senior deputy mayor Pramila Kablana, for carving out an illegal colony in Dhankot village.
