150 Ramprastha residents fall sick from contaminated water
GURUGRAM: Residents of Ramprastha City in Sector 37 C have complained that at least 150 people have fallen ill in the society since Friday after allegedly consuming contaminated water being supplied through Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) pipeline into the township storage tanks. Residents suspect that the water being supplied from the storage tanks is contaminated.
Neeraj Chauhan, a resident of The View condominium said, “Initially, we thought it was change of weather condition or we might have eaten something which upset our stomach. Since Friday night both my kids started vomiting and complained of stomach ache. On Saturday, I started feeling unwell in my office and had to return home. Thereafter, there was a flood of messages on our society social media group and many residents complained about indigestion and other gastrointestinal problem.
The residents further pointed out they have observed pungent smell and unpleasant taste in the water which is being supplied to them since last few days. “When we complained to facility management, they simply said that they have drained out the overhead tank without finding the cause of problem. More than 100 people have been affected, including children and elderly. How can someone be that callous about people’s health,” said Rajkumar Sisodiya, another resident.
The representative of the facility management could not be reached despite repeated calls and text messages.
When contacted, the senior official of GMDA said, “We have strict protocol which are in place and regular testing of water is being carried out in the water treatment plant. We have around 596 bulk consumers in the city and haven’t received such complaint from anyone. So, if the residents are complaining about getting sick after consuming water, then the local civic authorities can take action against the developer for mismanagement of water supply,” said Abhinav Verma, executive engineer, GMDA.
