Wait till August for water supply to new sectors in Gurugram
GURUGRAM: The wait for canal water supply in new sectors is getting longer as the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has pushed the deadline of the project from April to August. Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Friday that the canal water supply to all new sectors will be available by August.
In the authority’s meeting held in December, it was decided that the canal water supply to all new sectors will begin by April. Talking to TOI, GMDA chief engineer Pardeep Kumar said while more than 90% work is complete in two phases, 75% work is over in the third phase. The work is being carried out in three phases.
“In some areas, roads haven’t been laid yet owing to litigations. Unless roads are built, we will not be able to lay pipelines,” said Kumar, adding that they are quite certain that they will be able to complete the work before August.
Meanwhile, the pipeline laid down by GMDA in sectors 81-99 is being shifted due to an NHAI project, leading to delay in the water supply project. The authority had completed the work of pipe laying in these sectors in August last year. “We had completed the work and even carried out a trial in a few areas. There were some gaps which were plugged. We were ready to supply the canal water to these areas. However, now with the pipeline shifting, the water supply is delayed again,” said Kumar. Water will be supplied to new sectors mainly from Chandu Budhera plant as its capacity is being augmented.
