Gurugram: Man shows buyers flats, gets booking fee, cheats them
GURUGRAM: A contractor of Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) and 14 others were allegedly cheated of over Rs 1.2 crore by a man who posed as a developer. The fraudster showed flats across the city to potential buyers and disappeared after taking the booking amount.
The complainant —Mithelesh Kumar, who works as an HSVP contractor — told police that he met one Naveen Chandela, who identified himself as the managing director of AHI Housing through one of his friends Keshavram in February 2020. Mithelesh was interested to invest in the real-estate sector. Chandela showed him a few flats in sectors 48, 49 and 72 of which Mithelesh finalised three and gave a cheque of Rs 16.80 lakh as booking amount for the flats in March.
“Initially Chandela told me that the possession got delayed because of the lockdown. After a few months, he started avoiding my calls and then his phone was switched off. When I went to their office in Sohna road, I found it closed,” he said. When Mithelesh started asking nearby offices about Chandela, he realised that he along with a few others had been cheated.
Mithelesh finally approached police and after investigation an FIR was registered under sections 406 (fraud), 420 (cheating) of the IPC at Sector 50 police station on Thursday. “Mithelesh named around 15 buyers who have been cheated. We are trying to track him,” said police spokesperson Subhash Boken.
