Golf Course Road footbridges: GMDA says nod given, but work not started
Gurgaon: The project to construct foot overbridges (FOBs) on Golf Course Road to ease pedestrian movement is still hanging in uncertainty, even though the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has resolved the issue of placement of the structures.
GMDA, along with DLF, is supposed to develop five FOBs on Golf Course Road. While GMDA officials claim that the delay is happening at realtor DLF’s end, sources within DLF said they were waiting for approval from the metropolitan authority to go ahead with the project.
The locations where the FOBs are proposed include Bristol Chowk, near MPD tower, near Paras Downtown, near Vipul Belmonte and near New Times building. Residents of Vipul Belmonte, however, had raised objections over the placement of the FOB near their condominium. “We have had discussions with the stakeholders concerned and resolved the issue. The FOB will be moved a few metres ahead of the society, or we can reduce the number of FOBs,” said a senior GMDA official.
He added that they are now waiting for a proposal from DLF for construction of the project. “We have already given the required approvals and are now waiting for the developer to start the work,” said the official.
When approached on the matter, DLF did not comment. Sources within DLF, however, said they were waiting for in-principle approval from GMDA and the delay in the approval was leading to the project being stuck.
The original plan for the road did not have any provision for FOBs. After a number of road accidents with fatalities, the authorities directed DLF to build FOBs on the entire stretch for pedestrians, thereby avoiding such accidents in the future.
There are in all seven black spots on the stretch which are prone to accidents —Bristol Chowk, the junction near MLA flats, Sector 42-42 junction, Vipul Belmonte, AIT Chowk, Sector 55-56 metro station and SPR junction.
