GURUGRAM: Around 80-acre prime land was cleared of illegal structures by the enforcement team of town and country planning department on Wednesday.
As many as 40 under-construction houses, 15 shops and 250 other structures were razed by the officials in Bhondsi and Dhumaspur areas.
During the two-day drive, the enforcement team demolished a road that was being developed for an illegal colony spread over 40 acres of land in Dhumaspur village. The squad, in presence of around 125 policemen, used three earthmovers to raze 15 under- construction houses, 100 other structures and boundary walls along with the road.
On second day, the demolition drive was conducted at four different locations in Bhondsi. Using three earthmovers, the DTCP team razed 25 under-construction houses and 15 shops, around 150 other structures.
District town planner (enforcement) RS Batth said several complaints have been received on these illegal colonies. Even after serving show cause notices and restoration orders following a survey of these colonies, the builders failed to take corrective measures, following which a demolition drive was carried out in these areas.
Assistant town planner Ashish Sharma said old Defence Colony existed on 30-acre land in Bhondsi but the builders had built an illegal colony on another 40 acres. And the smaller pockets in between were used to construct illegal shops. He said there was resistance from residents and plot owners but the police controlled the crowd and the demolition was carried out successfully.
Batth said the department has issued several appeals to the residents in these areas, telling them not to invest their money in illegal colonies. “They should in fact invest in affordable housing schemes launched by the state government,” he said.
