MCG has directed the private developers of eight colonies, taken over by the civic body in June last year, to deposit the deficient infrastructure cost so that it can continue with the development work

According to the assessment done by the department of town and country planning (DTCP), the developers of these eight colonies have to pay a total of Rs 75.8 crore to complete the deficient infrastructure.

However, the developers recently demanded re-evaluation of the deficient infrastructure cost, saying the estimates were inflated. MCG commissioner PC Meena, in a meeting held on Wednesday, directed the developers to pay at least 50% of the amount within 20 days. The commissioner said that re-evaluation will be done only after the developers deposit a portion of the cost.

"MCG has already started development work in these colonies and we could not have waited for the funds from the developers. The developers have claimed that the estimates are inflated, so I told them to pay at least 50% of the amount they think is the right estimate. After they give us that amount, they can challenge the estimates and we can make a committee to evaluate that amount. However, we should first know whether they want to pay or not," the MCG commissioner told TOI.

According to the DTCP orders issued on May 9 last year, the cost to complete deficient infrastructure in nine colonies was Rs 92.04 crore, however, Mayfield Gardens for which the cost to complete deficient infrastructure was estimated to be Rs 16.21 crore, has not been transferred to MCG yet. Addressing the issue of delay in transfer of Mayfield Gardens, the commissioner also formed a committee on Wednesday to evaluate the estimates of deficient infrastructure of the colony.

"The commissioner in today's meeting constituted a committee to reevaluate the estimates of the deficient infrastructure. The developer of the colony had raised objections on the estimates due to which the takeover of Mayfield Gardens was delayed. The committee comprising chief town planner, district town planner, chief engineer, STP of the town planning department, an RWA representative and a representative of the developer will now make a fresh assessment and submit the report to the commissioner within 20 days," said a senior MCG official privy to the matter.

"The builders of our colony have abandoned the society for more than 10 years. Water, electrical and road infrastructure is in a shamble and our society has become worse than a slum. Almost 50,000 residents of the colony are suffering because of the indecision and delay in the matter by MCG," said Sanjay Gupta, a resident of Mayfield Gardens.

According to DTCP , the estimated cost to complete deficient infrastructure in Mayfield Garden is the highest at Rs 16.21 crore, followed by Malibu Towne (Rs 14.7 crore), Greenwood City (Rs 14.31 crore), Ardee City (Rs 10.93 crore), Sushant Lok 3 (Rs 10.38 crore), Sushant Lok 2 (Rs 8.50 crore), Vipul World (Rs 8.92 crore), Rosewood City (Rs 4.49 crore) and Uppal Southend (Rs 3.6 crore).
