The committee, in its report, has recommended that NAC has the funds, land and capacity to set up the university on its campus in the IT corridor. Of the total 40-acre campus, a university can be set up, preferably a private university, in a 20-acre area.

HYDERAB AD: A high-level committee comprising officials and staff and members from constructio n, real estate, confederation of Indian industry and national academic of construction submitted a report to the government for establishment of a private university with specialised courses to cater to the construction and real estate industry.

The committee, headed by the roads and buildings department secretary, was appointed by the state to study scope for setting up a construction industry-oriented university on the lines of sector-specific universities already functioning like horticulture, agriculture, veterinary, medical, and a tribal and forest university.

The committee, after studying the latest techniques and courses being offered in construction-oriented specialised institutes and academies in Singapore and Malaysia among other countries has submitted its report to the government recommending establishment of a specialised university for construction and real estate sector in the premises of National Academy of Construction (NAC) at Madhapur in the IT corridor of the city.

NAC director general K Bikshapathi confirmed that the committee has submitted a report to the government. “We will hire the services of an expert consultancy to prepare a detailed project report for setting up of the university if the government gives nod,” he said.

The committee, in its report, has recommended that NAC has the funds, land and capacity to set up the university on its campus in the IT corridor. Of the total 40-acre campus, a university can be set up, preferably a private university, in a 20-acre area.

To start with, the committee has recommended five specialised schools at graduation level, i.e., at the B.Tech level in the university. They are school of advanced construction technology, school of digital construction, school of real estate business management, school of sustainable construction and school of urban planning. These schools would be positioned on the global front to attract students from all over the world. “The construction and real estate sector wanted industry-oriented courses so that students can be absorbed into the industry immediately after they pass out. The major complaint from them was that the present civil engineering courses in universities do not match with the latest technical advancements in the field of construction and real estate,” said a senior official in the roads and buildings department.
