Senior officials in the chief minister's office (CMO) said work towards this direction has already begun and there is a possibility of bringing some changes ahead of the assembly session

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government is mulling amendments in building bylaws with additional safety norms to ensure safety of occupants before or after buying flats in multistoreyed group housing societies. While the urban local bodies, town and country planning department and Haryana Sheri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) have been told to work on issues related to updated and better safety norms for buildings, at the same time, the government is also exploring the possibility of giving more powers to the Haryana Real Estate Regulatory Authority (H-Rera) for safety audits and other related issues. Senior officials in the chief minister's office (CMO) said work towards this direction has already begun and there is a possibility of bringing some changes ahead of the assembly session. "Let's see how it works out. But, the government is serious over the issue of safety measures for those living in the multistory buildings. A lot of things have come out and more will tumble out as we conclude safety audit in other buildings," said the officials

Meanwhile, in a related development at Gurgaon, chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that work will be done to develop safe, convenient group housing societies across the state so that people living in these societies can get all the necessary facilities in a time-bound manner. The problems of the people in these societies will also be resolved at the earliest, he said. The CM said a seminar would be organized soon through Haryana Real Estate Regulatory Authority, in which RWAs can share their problems and suggestions. The town and country planning department and Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran will also participate in this seminar. The chief minister said a committee would be constituted for the inquiry of all the complaints received by the government regarding buildings. Entire development is consequent to the fatalities following the fall of a portion of group housing society in Gurgaon. Following the incident, the government had ordered security audit of rest of the buildings as well.
