Gurgaon: With the final land acquisition hurdle settled last week, the most crucial intersection of the Dwarka Expressway is now expected to be completed by September 2022.
Once ready, the cloverleaf intersection will make it easier for the residents of the new sectors to access NH-8 without having to go all the way to the Kherki Daula toll. The intersection, which is said to be a larger version of the one at Dhaula Kuan in New Delhi, is being billed as one of the largest such structures in the country. Last week, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had begun the process of acquiring the remaining 0.3 acres after a delay of almost three years. The shifting of the Shani temple and the cremation ground and the eventual handover of the land to NHAI has now cleared the decks for the construction of the cloverleaf intersection to begin.
Officials said it would take almost a year to complete the structure. “MCG has finally handed over the land. In the next few days, we’ll deploy our resources to start construction. It should take us one year to complete it, provided we do not encounter any obstacles. Once ready, it would be one of the largest cloverleaf interchanges in the country,” said a senior NHAI official.

Since winter is a few mon- ths away, rising pollution levels often cast a cloud on development projects as construction activity is stalled for the time-being. According to NHAI, the cloverleaf is being built with a circumference of over 2km, including ramps on four sides. The four loops are being designed in a way to allow seamless movement towards key routes such as the Delhi airport, Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Delhi-Gurgaon expressway, Central Peripheral Road (CPR) and Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), among others.

“Once completed, the interchange will make the Kherki Daula toll plaza practically insignificant for residents of the new sectors,” the official said.

Part of the Dwarka Expressway package 4, the interchange will provide an alternative to the residents of the new sectors to access NH-8 and the Sohna Road. Those coming from sectors around Golf Course Extension Road taking the SPR side of the Dwarka Expressway and wishing to access NH-8 can take the ramp to go towards Manesar and the loop for travelling to Delhi..

Those coming from sectors 84 and 88 will take the trumpet flyover near Sector 88 to get to the cloverleaf. From there, they’ll take the ramp road to get down to NH-8 and go towards Delhi. For those going towards Manesar, they’d take the loop. The first intersection, when moving towards the CPR side of the Dwarka Expressway, will be the interchange for commuters headed for Sohna Road or the Delhi-Mumbai expressway. The residents of the new sectors have for long been demanding that the cloverleaf interchange be built. They have also been wanting an access to the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway without crossing the Kherki Daula toll.

“A cloverleaf interchange is needed here. It will bring a lot of relief to the residents of the new sectors who have to either cross the Kherki Daula toll or take alternative routes that are long, congested and broken in several areas to get to NH-8 or Sohna Road. It will also decongest the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. We want the NHAI to complete the structure within the prescribed time,” said Prakahar Sahay, a homebuyer who’s been coordinating with government officials to expedite the completion of Dwaraka Expressway.
