Gurgaon: The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) on Wednesday directed all malls in the city to apply for trade licences.
In a meeting, the MCG officials told mall operators that it is mandatory for commercial properties to get trade licences according to the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994.
As per the sections 331, 335A and 336 of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, any commercial unit established within the municipal corporation limits will have to get a trade licence for operations.

A meeting of the malls operating under the zone-4 of the MCG was chaired by joint commissioner Sumit Kumar on Wednesday.

He directed the mall operators to get trade licences issued and clear their property tax dues.

The joint commissioner also said in the meeting that the Haryana government has also announced an exemption of 25% on the property tax for the 2021-22 fiscal year if paid by September 30. Moreover, an additional 10% of rebate will also be given for this year till September 30.

In the 2020-21 fiscal year, MCG had estimated to generate revenue of around Rs 15 crore from the trade licence fee, however, the corporation could generate only 55% of the projected revenue out of trade licences.

The civic body is estimated to generate around Rs 12 crore from the trade licences in 2021-22 fiscal year.

MCG commissioner Mukesh Kumar Ahuja in June had directed joint commissioners to send notices to the commercial properties, which are operating without trade licences in the city.

According to the property tax records, there are 66,000 commercial units in the city and a majority of them are operating without trade licences.

Moreover, MCG’s zone-1 has also conducted a survey to check the commercial establishments established in the residential areas. After these units are identified, they will be asked to get trade licences.
