Gurugram: Power woes in colonies as 16 builders fail to pay dues

The developers of these residential colonies, where around 40,000 people live at present, have failed to set up around 20 sub-stations, required for power supply to these colonies.

GURUGRAM: Several residential colonies are facing power woes as 16 developers have failed to clear dues of over Rs 317 crore for creating infrastructure for the hassle-free electricity supply to thousands of families.

The developers of these residential colonies, where around 40,000 people live at present, have failed to set up around 20 sub-stations, required for power supply to these colonies.

And to further add to their woes, the residents of these colonies are finding it hard to get electricity connections due to pending dues from the developers side.

According to officials of DHBVN, lack of infrastructure is the biggest cause of the city’s power problems and failure to offer uninterrupted power supply to these colonies. Most of these builders have collected EDC/IDC (external development charges/internal development charges) from homebuyers, but did not deposit the due with power department.

As per the plan, 14 builders were supposed to build 18 sub stations of 33KVA each and two sub stations of 6 KVA each. Out of these four each by Unitech and Ansal API, two each by Vipul and ABL and one each by Suncity, Vatika, Malibu Towne, Ardee City, Uppal Southend, Parsvnath, Sheetal and Saraswati Kunj.

President of Gurgaon home developers and plot owners association Ramesh Singla said the homebuyers are facing difficulties in get power connection.

A senior official from the power department in a meeting with developers on Tuesday directed them to deposit the pending dues. He also said that if the developers failed to clear dues, the department will prepare a proposal and send it to higher authority for approval.
