News: Hero Honda Chowk-Dwarka E-way Link Road To Be Widened To Six Lanes-31.08.2017

Hero Honda Chowk-Dwarka e-way link road to be widened to six lanes

TNN | Aug 31, 2017, 05:01 IST

Gurgaon: Thousands of commuters heading towards Hero Honda Chowk from different parts of old Gurgaon, via Basai Road, may expect a smooth and snarl-free drive soon.

For, the perennially congested 5.8km-long two-lane road, between Hero Honda Chowk and Dwarka expressway, will be expanded to a six-lane driveway, punctuated with two flyovers, one underpass and one railway over bridge (RoB).

The two flyovers will come at Umang Bharadwaj Chowk and Basai Chowk (see map) while the underpass has been proposed at Khansda Road crossing. The ROB will come up near Basai Dhankot station.

To be implemented jointly by NHAI and MCG, the Rs 147 crore project is expected to benefit people living in sectors 9, 10 and 37 and adjoining areas in old Gurgaon, as well as those coming from Rohtak and Jhajjar side.

Currently, the road, which is used mainly as "an alternative route" by residents of old Gurgaon to reach the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway, witnesses massive snarls due to huge volume of private and commercial vehicles. With several new sectors being developed in this part of the city, the traffic volume is only going to increase in coming days.

Besides, after completion of the flyover and underpass at Hero Honda Chowk, vehicles coming from Subhash Chowk will also take this road, increasing the snarls manifold.

The road widening was proposed during chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar's visit to Gurgaon on April 15, when he had inspected various ongoing development projects in the city. Finally, Khattar announced revamp and widening of the road on August 15.

"A detailed project report has been sent to the chief minister for approval. Tender for construction will he issued once we receive the go-ahead," said a senior MCG official. He said NHAI would fund construction of the stretch between Hero Honda Chowk and Umang Bharadwaj Chowk. This 2km stretch, including the flyover at Umang Bharadwaj Chowk, would cost Rs 37 crore.

MCG will foot the bill for the remaining 3.8km stretch from Umang Bharadwaj Chowk up to Dwarka expressway. The stretch, with a flyover at Basai Chowk and a ROB, is expected to cost Rs 110 crore. The RoB will be constructed with the help of the Railways.

A flyover at Umang Bharadwaj Chowk was first proposed in the Gurgaon-Manesar Urban Development Plan 2031, but the project failed to take off till date. "Now, it will be built as a part of the revamp project," said another MCG official.
