Gurugram: Illegal buildings in private colonies likely to be sealed

GURUGRAM: Around a week after sealing 150 properties constructed in violation of building norms in DLF-3, several unauthorised properties built on EWS plots of South City-1 and illegal commercial establishments set up in Sushant Lok-l and DLF-2 are on the radar of the town and country planning department (DTCP).
The department has already conducted a survey in these colonies and is likely to take action against the violators. A few buildings could be sealed this week.

Recently, the department received several complaints on unauthorised buildings constructed on plots measuring 60 square yards, which are meant for people belonging to the economically weaker section (EWS). The department has already issued showcause notices to a few properties identified by it. Soon, a sealing drive will be carried out, an official said.

District town planner (enforcement) RS Batth said the complaints were received by the department in writing and on social media. In most cases, developers have constructed buildings of six to seven storeys by merging two plots, he said, adding that several major violations have been committed by these builders during construction and now they are trying to tie up with companies to rent out these as paying guest accommodations.

According to the norms, only four storeys with stilt parking are allowed on these plots but rampant violations have been found in South City-1. Last week, the department had sealed around 150 properties in DLF-3 for unauthorised construction and illegal commercial activities.

According to the norms, only four floors are allowed on a residential plot, but in complete violation of the rules, the property owners have constructed seven to eight floors. “We have sought details of these property owners who have violated the norms from the developers. Many have constructed commercial setups like guesthouses and paying guest accommodation on 60sq-yard plots earmarked for EWS homes,” said an official.

After the sealing drive in DLF-3, the department has received several complaints from residents of Sushant Lok -1 and DLF-2 about illegal commercial activities in the basements and floors of residential buildings. The residents alleged they are facing parking and other civic problems due to illegal commercial activities.

Batth said the director has issued strict directions to check illegal construction on EWS plots and ensure the builder does not construct floors on these plots in violation of the norms.
