Officials said approximately 20 acres of land have been cleared as two under-construction warehouses, 12 under-construction houses, 60 structures and 20 boundary walls and road network were razed during the day-long drive by DTCP’s enforcement team.

GURUGRAM: As many as five illegal colonies were demolished by the town and country planning department (DTCP) in Dhanawas and Patli villages of Farrukhnagar on Thursday amid tight security.

Officials said approximately 20 acres of land have been cleared as two under-construction warehouses, 12 under-construction houses, 60 structures and 20 boundary walls and road network were razed during the day-long drive by DTCP’s enforcement team.

“Three of the five colonies were in early stages of construction and work related to plotting and road network was being carried out. In other two colonies, warehouses, houses, and boundary walls were under construction. .All the five colonies have been demolished,” said district town planner (enforcement) RS Batth. Three earthmovers were pressed into action and around 50 policemen were involved in the demolition drive, Batth added. After identifying these illegal colonies during a survey, officials said, the department had issued show-cause and restoration notices to their owners for violating building norms. However, the builders did not stop construction and also failed to furnish satisfactory replies, prompting DTCP to carry out the demolition drive.

Another official said that the pace of construction was fast and the under-construction houses would have been ready to move in within two to three months. The plot owners even put household items in order to prevent action by the enforcement team, but the officials weren’t convinced and razed the houses, the official added.

The registration of plots was done in 2018 and 2019 but the construction was going on when the department spotted these colonies. “The department has been issuing directions not to indulge in illegal plotting to avoid police action. We will recommend police cases against the land owners where illegal colonies are being developed,” the district town planner said.
